“I’ve worked with Jon Heidemann almost from the very beginning of my cycling career as a Cat 2. As a professional athlete, I need to coordinate my race & team schedules with my training & preparation. Jon’s interest in making me as fast as possible has virtually left no stone unturned. Beyond coaching, P2P has in-house their own exercise physiologist & nutritionist, as well as professional alliances with bike fit specialists, doctors, labs, physical therapists and sport psychologists. Their ability and willingness to interpret lab, race & training data, and utilize outside professional consultants have helped me to understand what improvements are needed to make me a better athlete.“

In my second year of racing, I was involved in a serious accident. I knew if I wanted to return to racing and do well, I was going to need a top notch coach and training regimen. Shortly after I was able to get out of a wheel chair, I began working with Kathy Zawadzki. Two short years later I won the Master’s National Road Championship. Even though I’m much stronger now than before my accident, I can’t imagine racing without a coach. There’s an art and a detailed science to coaching that far exceeds anything I can read in a book. Kathy understands both the science and the art. She stays current on the latest studies and techniques. Then Kathy tailors that knowledge specifically to me. I know that my training plan is designed for me, and that she continually adjusts my plan based on my performance, my recovery, and other aspects of my life that can impact my training. As for the art part of coaching, Kathy continually invests time and energy in knowing me as an individual. She knows how to talk to me so that I understand and believe in our plan. She knows what to say and when to say it to keep me motivated, to keep me focused on the right things, and to help my calm down when I get to a big event and things aren’t going as planned. Simply put, my success on the race course is due in large part to the coaching I receive from Kathy. I can’t do my best without her and I feel extremely fortunate to be a client of Peak to Peak, and be an athlete of Kathy’s.

When I stumbled upon my first bike race 3 years ago, I was completely new to the race scene and soon began looking for a coach to help introduce me to this complicated sport called bike racing. I was drawn to P2P's coaches because of their depth of experience working with a wide range of athletes from juniors to pros to physically challenged athletes, and everyone in between. From the beginning, I knew Jon was the best coach for me. Jon did not just hand me a training calendar without any direction, as many coaches do. Instead, he took the time to explain the ins and outs of his coaching method and spent numerous hours answering my questions and teaching me the basics about bike handing skills, race-day preparation, nutrition, and race tactics, just to name a few. What separates Jon from other coaches is that his coaching is truly multi-dimensional. From training calendars to training rides, off-season development, skill development, nutrition, and all-around knowledge, Jon's coaching is unparalleled. P2P is essential for anyone who wants to become a complete athlete and wants the opportunity to excel. I wouldn't trust my season to anyone else.

Having raced twenty years ago, in the earliest stages of bike computers and heart rate monitors, I knew there was more than Eddie B's book. I overtrained regularly, and after four years, I finally realized less was more. I was sure coaching could be useful, but not much fit for me then. Flash forward, or so it seems to me, twenty years to today, and I am faster and stronger than I was back then. Though I have learned that only the best keep racing in their fifties, I am competitive now after three years of coaching by Kathy Zawadzki. Most importantly, I do not overtrain, and I make steady progress. I race twenty to thirty times per season, and I am prepared well every time. For me the foundation for improved bike racing is coaching. Although I still try to buy speed on occasion, I know the real improvements are in the engine through proper training.

I've been racing for 11 years so have had the opportunity to figure out what works for me and what doesn't with respect to training. But a couple years ago, I felt like I had "plateaued" and just wasn't improving despite the effort I was putting out. I contacted Peak to Peak Training and after talking with Kathy, decided that working with her might help. Kathy's approach to training turned out to be just what I needed. She really emphasizes training smart instead of just training hard. My workouts are more varied now, I'm making the most of my training time, and am really happy with my improved performance and results.

Ever since starting to work with Jon Heidemann four years ago, my performance on the bike has only gotten better and better. Peak to Peak works so close with their clients, and do such personal work. Having experienced this coaching style, I would not go anywhere else. Jon Heidemann has taken my ability and stretched it to the absolute max. He has guided me in training and in racing. I cannot imagine myself having gotten this far in cycling without the help and guidance from Peak to Peak Training Systems.
