About the RMCEF

The Rocky Mountain Cycling Education Foundation is a non-profit organization and the junior focused arm of the MOB Cycling Race Team\RMCEF. It was developed in 2001 with the purpose of providing an introduction, instruction and leadership to the sport of cycling, both on a team and individual level. First and foremost, our goal is to create a program that each athlete feels proud to be a member of. A program that is based around fun, is challenging, and promotes positive experiences. Participation in cycling should be an enriching experience that helps our youth and young adults develop into self-confident, self-motivated, responsible individuals. We want to share our passion for the sport and teach an appreciation for the lifestyle that promotes life long health and fitness.

RMCEF Objectives
The emphasis of this program is learning. It is our belief that the lessons learned through cycling teach traits that can lead to a lifetime of achievements. Our program is designed to help each individual athlete understand what it means to realize their potential through self-discipline, time-management, hard work, goal setting and accountability. Developing these traits at an early age will not only allow our kids to succeed at cycling, but they will have the traits and skills necessary that go well beyond cycling.

ImageHistory
The RMCEF is a continuation of a program developed by Jim Miller and the Merlin Cycling Team. Initially, this team began in 1999 when some of Colorado’s most dedicated supporters, sponsors and clubs, sat down together and decided that junior cycling needed a boost. The founding principle of that program was to create a team to act as a platform to provide an opportunity for Colorado‚s most talented junior athletes to excel. We have since taken that program structure and expanded it from a few select athletes to the inclusion of all ability levels, aged 10 to 22 years.

How We’re Funded
All expenses associated with maintaining the program, vehicle maintenance, program equipment and any administrative support through our fundraising efforts. Our programs are structured so that the individual athlete’s tuition covers uniform costs and training camps.  All year-end profits, if any, will be placed in an endowment set up by RMCEF and used for our “adopt an athlete” scholarship assistance. The financial support received through these endeavors helps keep tuition as low as possible.

Cost vs. Benefits
As in everything in life, we must weigh a cost vs. benefit scenario. This program is no different. We have outlined below what we feel are strengths of the program that justify the expense of this program.

Positive leadership
Our coaching staff and program have been designed to create a positive influence on the individual athlete. Leading by example, we will teach the necessary traits for success – whether it is in school, business, sport, or life.

Health
The rising levels of type II diabetes and childhood obesity are already at epidemic status. By promoting our sport in a positive and fun matter, we will promote a lifelong journey of health. One of our biggest goals for this program is to teach a lifestyle of health and a basic understanding of proper nutrition.

Coaching
The RMCEF coaching staff is USA Cycling certified and have proven themselves successful. Over the years, they helped the RMCEF earn 15 Junior National Championship Medals and successfully dominated their regional competitive region of Colorado. Don’t take our word for it, ask around, or ask us to show you our successful track record.

Race Days
Cycling is a unique sport and unlike any other competitive endeavor. It can be very confusing to both parents and athlete. By letting us take the reigns and educate all involved, it allows you to enjoy the races, enjoy your athlete’s interests and have an enjoyable family experience.

Team Environment
We all know cycling provides individual challenges. These challenges are much more manageable and achievable within a team situation. This team will consist of an atmosphere where each member feels equal to the next and enjoys being a part of this team. When each member feels that he or she belongs and is appreciated, then sacrificing for each other will be second nature.

Fun
Riding, training and racing are ten times more fun with friends or a team. We will have team rides every other week beginning mid-May and ending at the end of August. Parents and friends are welcome to come along. Some rides will be on the road and some will be off-road. A monthly calendar will keep you informed.

Parent Involvement
Plain and simple, we want you involved. We see a lot more success when the parents are involved. Parent involvement is not necessary, only encouraged. Quarterly parent meetings will be held.

Academics
RMCEF team members are expected to achieve excellence in education. The minimum grade requirement to be considered for RMCEF is a 2.5 GPA. After a year in the program a minimum of 3.0 is required. If an athlete falls below the minimum requirement, they have one quarter to show significant progress. If the progress doesn’t show to meet the expectation of the parents and RMCEF, the athlete won’t be allowed to race with the team. If the GPA remains below requirements for a period of 3 quarters, then the athlete won’t be allowed to train or race with RMCEF.

You can join us anytime. Come on, its fun!

Scholarships
Because the expense of this team may be out of reach for some families, we may be able to offer scholarships based on the success of our fundraising efforts. As such, scholarships can be limited. Requirements are available upon request. Additional assistance is offered through our “Adopt-an-Athlete” program, where donors may sponsor an athlete by helping with tuition and travel expenses. Your tax deductible contribution to the Rocky Mountain Cycling Education Foundation will help us continue to provide quality cycling programs for youngsters.

Drug-Free Environment
This program is a drug-free program. Inclusion in this program requires that each athlete sign a code of ethics that includes a ban on the use of performance enhancing drugs, recreational drugs, alcohol and tobacco products. This policy will be strictly enforced!
